Sixth grade graduation photograph from Kimball Elementary School in Southeast D.C., 1958. Won Yang, standing second from left, recalls being the only immigrant student in her class. Because of school overcrowding, her class met on the campus of Sousa Junior High School, which four years earlier was the site at the heart of the Supreme Court decision in Bolling v. Sharpe, which legally ended segregation in D.C. public schools.
