Portrait of Alfred Sze, a leader in Central High School's cadet corps, 1895. Sze, the son of a member of the Chinese legation to the U.S., came to D.C. in the early 1890s. He would later serve as the first Chinese ambassador to the U.S. He returned permanently to D.C. after the 1949 establishment of the People’s Republic of China.
